What People Are Saying

“Offering people a cultural experience in a nontraditional space while still giving them a traditional jazz experience was something we were interested in, but also allowed us to utilize the museum during a time when it sits empty. People want to experience something beyond what a gym can offer. We wanted to expand our jazz offerings while making the connection between health and music.”

-Ryan Maloney, Director of Education & Programming

National Jazz Museum in Harlem

“Easily the highlight of my weekend was a jazz yoga led by Courtney Liddell. If you're in NYC and you love either, it's a no-brainer. She's awesome and the music was amazing. Don't know what else you need.”

— Lou (Attendee)

“I most enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community in an unexpected venue. “

Favorite Playlists

I practice yoga first thing in the morning. It is a sacred time for myself before I give to anyone else. My personal practice is brief - something I can commit to daily. Here's a Morning Flow soundtrack to help get you moving.

Love Supremely is the playlist that started it all. One Valentine's day I was inspired to teach a class celebrating universal love. The soundtrack would be John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. After arranging the 90 minute class, I remembered that entire album is 33 minutes long! The final playlist was a compilation of Coltrane compositions and inspired songs. 60 minutes into the class A Love Supreme began. We sat in meditation for the "Acknowledgement," before moving slowly through lunar poses and concluding with "Psalm" in savasana.

Move & Groove's first class at the National Jazz Museum was during a block of Latin Jazz-themed programming. This was before the introduction of live musicians to our class. Creating a Latin Jazz playlist for a yoga class was definitely a challenge, but with help from a knowledgeable friend, the museum, and proximity to Spanish Harlem, this Afro Latin Flow playlist was born.

We're not just Jazz. We love all good music! A Joyful Asana was created specially for a birthday yoga event (Yes, the birthday girl's name is Joy) It's R&B, Soul, Hip-hop, 90s, now-ish - all joyful bliss!
